Annihilation

Probably one of Netflix’s most daring creations, this 2018 science fiction film is written and directed by Alex Garland and is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer.

The story follows a group of explorers who enter “The Shimmer,” a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals caused by an alien presence. Unfortunately, annihilation left audiences conflicted; while the storyline, acting, and visuals were top-notch, the film couldn’t have the impact it wanted.
