Natalee was a well-behaved student and girl in general, according to her mother. A lot of people would expect that she was a party animal or just someone who loved to go out every night just for the sake of being with friends.

However, in a 2006 interview with Vanity Fair, Beth claimed that Natalee was a very motivated student and was not one for boyfriends or raucous behavior. So this was something that she struggled so much with allowing Natalee to go on that trip.
