The Ring marked a new era in horror movies in America. It was released in 2002 and set off a “don’t look at the tape” trend. The project, which featured Naomi Watts as the main character, was actually a remake of a Japanese movie of the same title.
The plot is terrifying up to this day: anyone who watches a mysterious disappearance within seven days. This leads a journalist (Watts), to attempt to figure out what is going on. It becomes a race against the clock to discover the truth when she watches the tape. The Ring was a commercial success, earning $249.4million and launching a franchise.
