Roland Emmerich borrowed from several productions in order to add value to his alien-invasion movie. He borrowed from a few other productions in order to get more value for his movie about an alien invasion.

Independence Day would go on to become a huge success at the box office, even though it was not low-budget. Although Emmerich was able to save some money on sets and production costs, the sci-fi movie grossed about $306.2 million. The sequel, Independence Day, Resurgence, cost $165 million.
