You did indeed read it correctly. Hollywood star George Clooney earned just $1 for his role in 2005’s Good Night and Good Luck. Clooney wrote and directed the film, not only that. Clooney’s tiny salary to bring this passion project to life wasn’t a legal requirement.

Clooney was so determined that this film would come to life that he mortgaged his home to pay the cost of the loan. Blockbusters such as Ocean’s Eleven and Three Kings made Clooney a star by this point. However, Good Night and Good Luck was Clooney’s most successful film as a director.
