When Twitter and other social media platforms were slowly gaining popularity, Carrey said some things that put him in hot water. One of them was about his role in Kick-Ass 2. A few months before the movie was released, he spoke out about it.

“I did Kick-Ass a month before Sandy Hook. And now in good conscience, I cannot support that level of violence,” he tweeted, referring to that horrible school shooting at the elementary school. “My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it, but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
